Just Relax – Relaxing to Sleep CD: Guided meditation for sleep; sound therapy for relaxation and healing; stress relief music track
New Age Retailer Magazine, July, 2005
Product Description
‘Just Relax…’ is very repetitive, and for a good reason. By repeating many of the same words and phrases, the brain / mind stops paying attention to the words and tunes out. When that happens, you automatically fall asleep. If you think that might be annoying to you, or if you’re looking for a step-by-step ‘how to’ program, with tips and techniques to prepare you for sleep, but not necessarily put you to sleep, rather than purchasing our CD, we recommend that you to buy a book instead.

I am appalled by this CD. Gail Seymour keeps on repeating “relax, relax, relax”, then briefly gives a few pieces of advice on “how” to relax, but this goes much too quickly. The rest of the main part of the CD talks about the benefits of relaxation, which doesn’t help you to relax, just makes you wish you could.
I have used Cds that really give you practical methods of relaxation and that is why I bought this CD. It is usually very efficient and I was curious to try something different. When she says “next time I use the word relax, it is as if I had said it ten thousand times”, I really feel cheated.

My insomnia comes and goes. Stress, caffeine and depression are all factors. I’ve tried sleeping pills, and all I got were mornings that felt like I’d been drinking booze the night before. Drugs are never an option for me. No thanks. Although the subliminal CDs I’ve purchased in the past were nice to listen to, they never seemed to help. I ordered Just Relax at the recommendation of a friend who found it beneficial. The instructions in the beginning of the CD are pretty straight forward. I listened to them once, maybe twice. When I played track 2, it took me a few minutes to adjust to hearing someone’s voice, but it became a familiar one (like a good friend) very quickly. The next thing I knew, it was morning, and the alarm clock was going off. It works all right. I got a full 8 hours. Just Relax is probably the best CD I’ve ever used to help me with insomnia. It usually does the trick. Gail Seymour’s voice is soft and gently persuasive, suggesting that I relax, and soon I find myself drifting off to sleep. There’s soft music in the background, as well as on track 3, which is very easy to listen to night after night. I never seem to tire of it. I highly recommend this CD for anyone with sleep disruptions who wants safe, drug-free rest. I’m really glad I bought it. It’s worth every penny.

I was given this CD as a gift, and was skeptical after reading the review making fun of it. I finally decided to give it a try last night, and it works.
I can understand how the other reviewer said it sounds funny hearing the constant talking, and they are right, it is very repetative. But I think that is the whole goal behind the CD. Monotony will bore you and clear your mind.
I wish I could review the entire CD, however I was asleep before the second track was complete. I popped it in the CD player, listened to the intro which explains how it works, then it went on to the spoken meditation track. I remember listening to it not thinking it was doing any good, then waking up this morning. Supposedly it has a track after the voice which is instrumental only, but I obviously didn’t make it that far.
If you need something to clear your mind of all the day to day worries and stresses, this CD is an excellent choice. I highly recommend giving it a try.
